Single Appointment Dental Care With CEREC
At Prosthodontics of Madison, we believe in investing in the most advanced technologies for providing excellent patient care. This is why we rely on, and have been extensively trained in the innovative, computer-based CEREC® 3D system. CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Aesthetic Ceramics, is an excellent tool for planning and performing many types of tooth restoration, including:
- Partial Crowns
- Complete Crowns
The CEREC Process
Unlike conventional techniques—which at other practices can involve multiple appointments, the use of an outside lab, more patient discomfort and, in some cases, less attractive results—all the steps of a CEREC restoration occur right here in our office in the course of a single appointment, taking roughly two hours.
The basic steps are:
Examination and Diagnosis – Dr. Schaefer will evaluate the condition of the damaged tooth and recommends treatment.
Preparation for Restoration – Depending on the damage to be repaired, Dr. Schaefer will prepare the site, removing decay and readying surfaces for further restorative steps.
Digital Imaging – Using CEREC, accurate optical images of the damaged and adjacent teeth are generated to enable Dr. Schaefer to plan and design the restoration.
Restoration Production – With the digital images serving as a blueprint, the CEREC milling system “carves” the custom designed restoration out of solid ceramic (porcelain) material. Depending on the complexity of the restoration, this computer-aided process takes from 3–30 minutes.
Completion of Procedure – Dr. Schaefer then fits the restoration to the prepared tooth and permanently cements it in place.
The Benefits of Restoration with CEREC
Prosthodontics of Madison recommends restoration with CEREC for several important
Fast Restoration – The entire process, from exam to completed restoration, takes place during one office visit, in approximately two hours… no second visit is required.
No Need for “Temporaries” – Same-day service eliminates the inconvenience and expense of putting in and removing temporary restorations… which might also fall out.
Less Discomfort – Thanks to a simpler process and the elimination of a second office visit, patient discomfort—from numbing shots, removal of temporaries, and tooth preparation—is minimized.
No Waiting – There is no need to wait a week or two for the restoration to be produced by an outside lab.
Stunning Results – Because the restoration is made from solid ceramic that is custom-designed and color-matched with the rest of your teeth, it fits in the mouth beautifully and unobtrusively… unlike amalgam fillings.
If you have any questions about the CEREC restoration process and why our patients are so pleased with it, we are pleased to provide you answers.
